HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT

The Satellite City Of Navi Mumbai Was Developed By The Government Of Maharashtra Under The Nodal Agency CIDCO, As A Twin City To Mumbai, During The Period 1970s. In The Year 1992, A Small Prayer Group Of 5  Malankara Catholic Families Of Navi Mumbai Was Organised Under The Inspiration Of Rev. Fr. Ignatius Thangalathil, OIC, The Then Mission Superior Of Mumbai Pune Region,  In November, 1994, Rev. Fr. James Mammoottil, OIC,  Celebrated The First Holy Qurbono Of The Malanakara Syrian Catholic Church,  In Navi Mumbai, At The Residence Of Late Mr. Unnoonni Pappachan (Jose), Nerul, A Member Of The Community.     It Was Under The Jurisdiction Of The St, Joseph’s Malankara Syrian Catholic Parish, Ulhasnagar. By 1995 The Number Of Families Increased To 18, And Rev. Fr. Mathai Itranathara OIC, Took Charge.Services Were Shifted    To St. Augustine’s School, Nerul And Remained There Till 1998.By This Time The Number Of Families Increased To 45. In 1998, The First Mass Of The Malankara Church In Navi Mumbai,  Was Conducted In The  School Chapel  By Rev. Fr. Ignatius Thangalathil, OIC., During The Tenure Of  Rev. Fr. Mathai Iranathara, OIC As The Vicar. Rev. Fr. Jacob Oravakkal, OIC Took Charge Of The Vicar Of The Unit In The Year 2000.  On 4th October, 2001, CIDCO Allotted 500 Sq. Mtrs Of Land For A Church Building At , Sector 5, Khaghar. Navi Mumbai, And Permission Was Granted For The Construction Of The Church . On 30th December, 2001,  Fr. John Berchmans OIC, Blessed And Laid The Foundation Stone Of The Church, With A Ground Floor Open Space, The Church On The First Floor With A Balcony And A Priests Residentce And A Small Hall Of The Top Floor. The Construction Was Started On 20th June,  2002. It Was In The Year 2003, The Navi Mumbai Community Started Receiving  The Services Of The Bethany Sisters For The Spiritual  Growth Of The Community. Rev. Sisters Pratheeksha SIC And Brijitha SIC From Ambernath Started Visiting Two Sundays In A Month. Fr. Jacob Oravakkal (2000-2005) Was Transferred To Pune In May, 2005 And Fr. Zacharias Nandiattu OIC And Fr. Paul Vineet OIC Took Charge As The Vicar And Asst. Vicar Respectively.  In May 2006, Fr. Joseph Philip OIC Took Charge As The Vicar. During The Period 2005-2006 Rev. Sr. Neeta SIC Served The Unit In The Spiritual Life. On 9th April. 2006, Rev. Fr. John Berchmans OIC Conducted The Temporary Blessing And Consecration Of The Church. By The End Of  The Year 2006, The Construction Work Of The Church Was Complete And The Church Was Consecrated And Dedicated To Mother Mary On 29th And 30thof  December, 2006, By His Excellency Joshua Mar Ignathios, The Then Auxiliary Bishop Of Trivandrum. On 13th May, 2007, The Kharghar Parish Organised A Reception To The Newly Consecrated ETRI Apostolic Visitator H. E. Jacob Mar Barnabas.  On That Day After The Mass His Excellency Blessed The Grotto Of Rosa Mystica, Installed In The Front Of The Church.  The Statue Of Rosa Mystica Was Brought By Rev. Fr. Jacob Oravakkal From Italy In The Year 2003. During The Period Of 2007-2008 The Statutory Paper Works Related To The Construction Of The Church Was Completed And Occupancy Certificate Form CIDCO Was Obtained.  This Facilitated For The Permanent Electricity And Water Connections. Prayer Groups  Were Expanded To Four Since April 2008, As

  1. St. Joseph’s Prayer Meeting, Vashi, Koparkhairne And Airoli,
  2. Sacred Heart Prayer Meeting , Sanpada, Nerul And CBD Belapur.
  3. St. George Prayer Meeting , Kharghar
  4. St.Mary’s Prayer Meeting , Kalamboli, Kamothe , Panvel

In 2019 St. Mary's Was Bifurcated Into St. Mary's For Panvel Area And

  1. Mar Ivanios For Kalamboli And Kamothe Area

Exarchate Of S. Ephrem, Khadki-Pune Was Erected, And H. E. Thomas Mar Anthonios Was Enthroned As The First Exarch On 30th May, 2015, At Khadki Church. The Silver Jubilee Celebrations Of The Parish Was Celebrated During 25th November 2018 And 24th November 2019.  The Celebrations Were  Inaugurated By H. E. Thomas Mar Anthonios, When Rev Mathew Modiyil OIC Was The Vicar And Then concluding  Ceremony Was Headed  By H  B. Baselelios Mar Cleemis,  Major Archbishop Catholicos,  When Rev  Fr. Gevarghese Panickeruveettil OIC Was The Vicar.
